PhD / How to give a presentation effectively and persuasively
General information
How do you present your scientific research professionally and comprehensively at the university or at conferences? Giving an appealing and interesting talk or presenting an attractive and informative poster can be an important factor when it comes to getting your research recognized. This course will cover offline and online (e.g. via Zoom) presentation skills, focusing on the awareness of one’s own style, strengths and weaknesses. Participants will have to practise a presentation of about 10 minutes plus discussion, which will be filmed. Feedback on the posters and presentations is carried out throughout the course by self-assessment, group analysis and lecturer review.
By the end of the course participants are able to:
- understand the fundamentals of presenting with an assessment of each person's unique presentation style
- plan a well-structured presentation and poster appropriate to their discipline
- deliver the presentation confidently and effectively
- handle questions and elicit feedback efficiently
- assess their own presentation skills and give constructive feedback to others
- set aims for further development (feedback from filming underlines strengths and weakness), experience and skills
