PhD / Postdoc / Ethics training and the responsible use of AI in research

General information

This case-based, interactive course aims to train early career researchers to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to conduct research following ethical principles. Particular attention is paid to using Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in research. Participants are assisted in developing expertise in this area by drawing on the resources of ethical theory.
 
Following topics will be discussed in the course:  
  •     Basic ethical concepts that are relevant for scientific integrity
  •     Procedures for dealing with allegations of scientific misconduct
  •     Fabrication and falsification of data, including image manipulation
  •     Ethics of AI
  •     Publication ethics
  •     Conflicts of interest
  •     Plagiarism
Through the discussion of (real and fictitious) cases of scientific misconduct, participants in the course
 
  • are sensitized about the importance of ethical behavior in scientific research, including the responsible use of AI      
  • improve their skills in identifying and assessing ethical issues
  • acquire a better knowledge of current Swiss guidelines for research integrity
