Professor:innen / Providing orientation, supporting development – giving feedback to postdocs

Allgemeine Informationen

Constructive feedback is a key leadership tool in the support and development of early-career researchers. This is particularly true in the postdoc phase, which is often characterised by uncertainty and involves important decisions regarding future career paths.

The training supports professors in providing feedback in a respectful and effective manner. It combines current insights from feedback and learning research with practice-oriented exercises and structured peer exchange.
The focus is on feedback related to academic performance as well as on the professional handling of challenging feedback situations, for example when career perspectives are limited or when a reorientation seems necessary.

To prepare for the training, participants will receive a short introductory video two weeks in advance and are invited to bring along an example from their own experience.
Participants

• are able to reflect on their role as feedback providers in the postdoc phase,
• become familiar with key criteria and models of effective feedback as well as common
pitfalls,
• gain confidence in handling difficult conversations and emotional reactions.
